Gardens Project creates access to locally based food production by organizing communities to transform underutilized and vacant land in low-income neighborhoods in Lake and Mendocino Counties into community gardens that produce nutritious food.
Mendo Lake Food Hub, increases access to local produce while supporting local farms by connecting small farmers around Lake and Mendocino Counties to wholesale buyers, including grocery stores, restaurants, schools, and to individuals. They also provide food assistance for community members in need.
Under the Ceres Project model, Caring Kitchen Project provides nourishing meals to individuals and families facing cancer. Meals are prepared by teen and adult volunteers in a dedicated kitchen at Mendocino College and are crafting using locally grown produce and organic ingredients.
Collectively, these programs strengthen our local foodshed and improve food security in tangible, measurable ways. According to Kelseyville farmer Sean Mooney, “Any success I had this past year was due to the Food Hub.” In a recent annual survey, a community gardener shared that joining Gardens Project was “the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and family. I’ve been a garden member providing organic food for my family for 12 years now! It just doesn’t get better than that.”
